U8 Cobras vs Wahroonga Blue

U8 Cobras vs Wahroonga Blue

We played at Carrington today and the weather was good (again). We also had a full team so all the signs were good. Thomas and Ethan had volunteered to be goalies this week and Thomas had the first half in the sun. Luka, Luke, Kai and Errol formed the defence line and Connor, Hayley, Ethan and Daniel formed the front. Both teams were well matched and the first half saw some nice soccer. Thomas did an outstanding job in goal and saved us from running behind on points.

In the second half, Ethan was goalie and we had Thomas, Luke, Errol and Daniel in the back. Luka, Connor, Kai and Hayley were up front. Ethan too did a great job in goal and Hayley had a few shots a goal - Connor tried, Luka tried, Daniel tried but no one could get through. Hayley scored a great goal, but unfortunately Wahroonga managed to score two. The Cobras did an outstanding job and played well even in the more difficult second half.

Well done for everybody with an extra applause for Hayley for the only goal for us, a well done to Ethan for the outstanding effort in goal and Thomas took the players award home for his performance in the first half. Look forward seeing the next game!

Game 12, 2 July - Cobras v West Pymble Kookaburras

Game 12, 2 July - Cobras v West Pymble Kookaburras

Back on our home ground this weekend playing against the West Pymble Kookaburras. We had 1 man down - Luka - which caused a bit of a gap in our defence line to fill. But Luke and Thomas did extremely well.

Thomas swept the initial attacks and Luke took care of the rest.

Hayley did a fantastic job in goal and Kai kept the sidelines very clean.

Well done for the defence line in the first half.

Connor, Daniel and Ethan assisted by Errol went into the attack. They tried, and tried and tried - had some great shots at goal and did not give up. The game went both ways and the teams were very nicely matched.

In the second half Errol took the goal - and wow, even though he caused me some gray hairs he kept the goal clean. A fantastic job - well worth the player of the game award.

This weekend saw all players perform their best. Truly a game worth watching and very exciting till the last minute.

Well done Cobras - enjoy the break!

Game 11, 25 June - Cobras v Bannockburn

Game 11, 25 June - Cobras v Bannockburn

This Saturday morning found the Cobras tucked away on the Friars field The sky was blue, the team was ready and we had Ethan and Luke in the goals. What could go wrong?

Nothing really.

Well - our sweeper came way too much forward and made the first goal.

Beautifully done by Luka, who performed in the back row together with Thomas, Luke and Kai. Connor, Hayley, Errol and Daniel worked on the attack and produced wave after wave of possibilities. It was great to finish a first half with a 1-0 advantage.

And the Cobras performed even better in the second half - strong attacks and tight defense work, which all resulted in a goal scored by Hayley. We have to mention that Hayley managed to score that goal with an injured foot. Unfortunately it did become too painful toward the end of the second half and Hayley had to retire.

A fantastic team effort.

We closed the day with our mid-season BBQ. The team got together in Bobbin Head for some food and play.

Thank you all for coming to our BBQ and thank you for a great season so far.

Jeltje and Martin.

Game 9, 11 June 2011 - U8 Cobras vs Berowra Bears

Game 9, 11 June 2011 - U8 Cobras vs Berowra Bears

Could this be the week? Could the Cobras beat the Bears?

It started not too good; both Thomas and Daniel were unwell, but thankfully Ethan came even though he was still recovering.

Just enough players for a complete team.

First half had Luka in goal with Errol, Luke and Kai defending. Our attack line was formed by Hayley, Connor and Ethan. The game went back and forth - both teams trying their best, but no goals until shortly before the break when the Bears scored a really good goal.

After lots of oranges and a pep talk the Cobras came back on. This time Ethan in goal , Luka - Luke and Errol in the back and Hayley, Connor and Kai in the front. The Bears broke through within 5 minutes, but Ethan saved the day and shortly after Luka took the ball from the back and scored our first goal of the match. To make things even better, Connor scored another one. Finally - a well deserved win for the Cobras. Errol was man of the match; he played a great game, had to suffer a ball on the face but came back and continued as best as he could. A very good game, and good to see the team having a win.

Game 8, 4 June 2011 -- U8 Cobras v Wahroonga Yellow

Game 8, 4 June 2011 -- U8 Cobras v Wahroonga Yellow

A cold Saturday morning - unfortunately Ethan was ill and we did not have the luxury of 2 subs. We played Wahroonga Yellow - a good team with some hard kickers. Connor volunteered to be in goal first half and he was supported in the back by Luka, Luke and Thomas. The front row was formed by Hayley, Daniel, Kai and Errol.

First half it seemed the team was a bit frozen by the cold and needed time to defrost and get up to speed. Wahroonga had a strong attack and our defence line was busy. Thomas had to work many balls safely over the sideline and Luka and Luke sweeped as much as they could.  A big high kick from Wahroonga resulted in their first goal.

Second half had Luke in goal. This time supported with Luka, Thomas Kai and Errol while Hayley, Connor and Daniel had the brief to go out and score goals! They were close a few times, but Wahroonga's defence was just a bit better.

Luke saved many balls, but had to let a few through - they were beautiful goals and nothing we could do about it.

Thomas took home the player of the match award for his consistent strong defensive play.

And since Luke  had done so a big job in goal, it was decided he deserved a special award for his big effort.

Well done to both and well done to the team for not giving up!

Better next time.
