Mt Colah vs Monash

April 2^nd 2011

It was an early start for some at 7:30 dressing the field. Ground was wet with dew but sunshine soon burnt that off.

Play started with a full 11 and no reserves. It was the first time the team had played together this season.

It was a good start by Mt Colah dominating the Monash half. An early pass into goal, sadly shot wide by Jacob. Then Monash began to penetrate the defence, a fast break by Monash into our half managed to get past Mohan but cut off by Nick, followed quickly by another push and good save. Ben M and Nick worked hard to cut off attack into goal, back into Monash half but booted back into our half and despite efforts and potential offside , Monash scored in the 7^th minute. SCORE 0-1

Monash again into attack and some poor defence got us off on wrong foot but goal box covered again by Nick. Defence by Ben and Nick forced a handball but the free kick was a little wasted. At 15^th minute there was frantic action in our goal again with everybody getting their feet and arms in – a wide cross into goal by Monash saved us this time.

Coyle into battle with attacker – was tripped but not called – starting to heat up now but Coyle cool as ever.

Good run into the middle by Ben D – throw in set up interesting passage of play back and forth into attacking half – finally beaten out by Monash and into another break into our half – cut and run out by desperate Mohan. Shortly followed by another wide shot at our goal with Mohan in thick of it.

22 mins in and tempers are up – altercation between players, quickly closed down by the referee.

Attacking Monash half, Coyle kicked another good straight line pass to Jake who took a shot but sadly too high. Back in our half and fast work by Jake again to cross to Ben D back to Mohan to get ball into attack. Good play from defence.

28^th minutes in James studded by Monash – tempers up and referee shows Yellow to James and Monash player. Play flows back into our half and despite valiant attempts by Nick and Ben M to turn the ball over it ends up in the back of our net again. SCORE 0-2

Good kick out of defence into a cross by Mujeeb but just wide again – getting closer. Ball into our half, covered by Ben M who seems desperate to get the ball out with back pass to Mohan for play out of goal. Monash again in but a good diving save at end of first half leaves us down 2 goals.

2^nd half and Mt Colah pushing up but little tentative – careful play results in a corner for us – taken by Shea with short pass to Ben D but a little wasted.

4 minutes in and another goal by Monash with Ben M chasing down the player but no luck here. SCORE 0-3

Play by Mt Colah deep into Monash half – a mistake here by their goalie after a failed back pass has us into attack – Mujeeb has another good shot but hits the cross bar.

Another attack by Monash that missed our goal off lower side – but surely he was offside anyway. Monash was very fast off that half line for us. Our goal under attack and saved by Ben M this time.

A throw in to Natalie and quick pass back and forth and deep wide pass to Jake has him in a good position close to goal – a low flick at goal and we now finally score on 15^th minute of 2^nd half. SCORE 1-3

Monash back into attack and we are lucky to survive another break as they had the ball all the way from half line to goal but poor shot ended wide.

Coyle’s line throw in Monash half to Ben D to cross into goal has goalie fumble and picked by Jake but his shot very high over the fence.

Ball again down our end and good saves by Mohan has him diving on the ball causing the Monash player to crash over him.

A corner by Monash is headed out by James and players force into attack but beaten back by Monash, this has them take a hard shot that rattled the top bar. Another run by Monash allows a kick into the right bottom of our net at 30^th minute. SCORE 1-4

Free kick by Monash straight to Mt Colah has us pushing up and down into attack but Monash now deep in defence preventing flowing play. Full Time.
