Game 5, 21 May 2011 - U18A

Lindfield at Parklands on a magic autumn morning was today’s fixture. Brock would warm up with the team just in case he was needed, his Hamstring not feeling too bad today. He was eager to play but would it be worth the risk of causing further harm? The game got off to a promising start with Josh M passing to Connor, his shot deflected for a corner. Joe was moved to the midfield for this match and he found himself on the end of a Yellow Card after one of his challenges was deemed to be too strong. Lindfield had a good shot at goal but Josh H deflected the attempt away. The intensity rose as Lindfield seemed to find their own players' feet with good passing, something that just wasn’t happening for Mt Colah, many passes not finding their mark. Midway through the half Joe was given his second Yellow Card after disagreeing with the Referee on a decision that went against him. You will never win an argument with the man in the middle and Joe was given his marching orders. With a man down Mario asked Brock if he could take the field when a sub was needed and he was happy to do so. Lindfield took advantage of the extra player and slotted one away to take the lead. Daniel crossed a ball into the box but there was no one there to put it away. Connor was put into the clear from a great ball from Josh M, had two bites at it with the second going wide of goal. The score would remain at 0-1 at the break.

After a “razzing” from Mario at half time the boys lifted their game, with Brock having a go but there was not enough on the ball to trouble the Keeper... Matt, even though he was playing in the backs, had a shot from long range after a deflection from the Keeper from a free kick. Unfortunately it curled well right off his boot. The boys were all working hard to keep Lindfield at bay. Parko weaved his way through the Lindfield defence to send a beauty through to Brock who ran onto it and smashed it at goal just as the Keeper arrived, the ball deflecting off his leg. The collision between the two saw the Lindfield Keeper stay down for a while. Tiredness was starting to set in as Lindfield were allowed some space to move, a shot at goal just missed by a diving Josh. Minutes later Lindfield were awarded a direct free kick after a dubious handball decision went against Mt Colah. Chris was given a Yellow Card for arguing his case giving Mario no choice but to replace him for fear of another Red. The kick was slammed hard and Josh dived to hi right, getting fingers to the ball but not able to stop it. As he landed his thumb slammed into the ground hard, dislocating very badly. He was in excruciating agony as he lay on the ground. Obviously he would not be able to continue, leaving us without a Keeper and another player short so the decision was made to forfeit the rest of the game. Already being down 0-3 made the decision an easy one. His hand is now in plaster so he will be out for quite a few weeks by the looks of things. It seems that there will be interesting times, numbers wise, ahead for the team. Thanks to Colin and Dave for running the line today.

Cheers
